The Firecoupler "Doggie" Door.

The purpose of this design is to provide a method of transferring water into a room to fight fire without blocking the doorway with fire hoses.

Mr. Tausig, Assistant Secretary of the Navy (United States), expressed the concern that aboard the ships at sea firefighting brought with it a whole new challenge.    On land, when you lose control of a fire you can always step away to control it.    With the lack of surrounding area, on-board ships, when you lose control of the fire you may be forced to swim.    One of the main on-board ship areas of concern is fighting a fire in a room.    Fire hoses must be brought through a doorway.    In the small space of time, that you have to leave the room, with the fire out of control you must leave the doorway open because of the tangle of fire hoses going into the room.

With the "Fire Coupler Door" equipped with Fullerton Nut™ "Fire Couplers", one may simply "push" a fire hose onto the female outside connector, attach a hose or spray nozzle attachment to the inside, charge the fire hose and open the ball valve.    The room now has firefighting water.    If you lose the room to the fire, you can leave the hose or spray nozzle working, close the door upon leaving -- confining the fire to that location.    If desired, a foam solution could then be substituted into the fire hose and pumped into the room.

This fire coupler door, (known as a " doggie door"), originally designed for U.S. Navy ship use, could be modified for any wall or container use.

With respect to the application:

  1. A hole would be cut in the container wall and the "Fire Coupler Unit" placed in that opening.
    1. If the container wall were similar to that on-board a Navy ship, the hole would be through aluminum plate and simply tapped on both sides by the fire coupler.
    2. If the container wall were constructed similar to a house a spacer would be placed in the cut opening prior to placing the fire coupler door.

This description is to be used to simply explain the "Fire Coupler Door" and its use.    A more complicated doggie door document can be provided for actual use.
